Scientists clone extinct mountain goat…what’s next?

According to The Age, scientists have recently cloned the Pyrenean ibex which was declared extinct back in 2000.  As posted on the site this morning:
THE Pyrenean ibex, a form of wild mountain goat, was officially declared extinct in 2000 when the last known animal of its kind was found dead in northern Spain.

One of the coolest video’s I have seen in awhile…

Beyond just the coolness of the video, I was really taken with the story behind it.
The core of the project is Christopher Rehage’s website “http://www.thelongestway.com/” where he has posted an extensive travel diary, starting from day 1 (Nov 9th 2007) and describing every single day until the end one year later.

Nomura Jellyfish Gallery

Nomura jellyfish are huge creatures which can grow to 6.5 feet (2 meters) wide and weigh up to 450 pounds (220 kilograms). Common in Chinese and Korean waters, their population is on the rise in the fishing waters off Japan causing chaos as they poison fish with their toxic stings.  More pictures of these massive [...]

When great content and UX come together it’s tech poetry…

Seed Magazine has been known for robust and relevant content for awhile now, but what do they think they’re doing taking that great content and visualizing it with intuitive and innovative user interface design?!

Kudos to Seed! This is such a great example of brains, brawn and beauty coming together.

Implantable telescope…I need one and now!

This device has just recently received FDA approval (with conditions), which means it could be available for bionic geatric treatments in the next few years.  Yes…I said bionic! Although currently only being tested for the treatment of existing conditions, there is no doubt that I will be asking for one for Christmas in the next [...]

In short, the main concept of the talk (the short and simple presentation can be viewed here) was on the importance of applying more focus on wetware and less on hardware and software within the mobile innovation space.  NOTE: [...]

Juan Enriquez talks science and tech

This is just the most recent in a number of talks the Juan Enriquez has given at TED.  Probably one of the most interesting and engaging speakers I have had the pleasure of watching…

For TED lovers, this is a must watch…

Jay Walker, curator of the Library of Human Imagination, conducts a surprising show-and-tell session highlighting a few of the intriguing artifacts that backdropped the 2008 TED stage.

WTF? We weren’t created miraculously 5000 years ago?

All kidding aside, one of the questions that I have found interesting over the years is where and when life in the universe actually began.  In one theory (and it is just a theory at this point), researchers at Andalusian Institute for Earth Sciences (IACT) of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) are looking to ice [...]

And you thought the global credit crisis was scary…

James Nachtwey is considered to be one of greatest war photographers of recent decades. In this TED talk, James uses some dramatic and powerful photographs to document the spread of a new strain of drug-resistant tuberculosis. While the photographs and content are a little scary, James uses them quite effectively to convey an important message.
