If you are an avid home theatre buff, out of work wall street broker or just someone with an extra $116,000 US lying around, you can now skip the current 1080P HD offerings and go directly to 4K.  What will that get you besides the resentment jealousyadmiration of your friends and colleagues?  Well, it will get you a massive increase in resolution (as seen in the graphic below).  Sony has just released the SRX-T110 and SRX-T105 front projectors, both of which are native 4K projectors. 

While it is arguable whether John Q Public could really see the difference this increase in resolution would give you, as home theatre screens get bigger, the want for higher and higher resolutions will continue to increase as well.  Of course, you won’t be getting any of your media encoded in 4K anytime soon either. 

 

At this point, your Blu-Ray (and/or HD-DVD) movie collection is safe for the time being.  You can’t blame a geek for dreaming though, can you?
