Great article on Obama’s foreign policy team
Have you ever wondered how presidential candidates stay knowledgeable and informed on all the issues of the world? As well, have you ever wondered how they develop their opinions and policies on such diverse and sometimes muddy issues? Well, being the geek that I am, I wonder this stuff all the time.
Well, as this article from the NYTimes outlines, a much larger team of 300 is working daily to inform and advise Mr. Obama on foreign policy. The amazing thing about this team is that it is not only made up of Obama faithful (which you would expect), but now also includes some of the Clinton foreign policy all-stars as well.
Essentially, the 300 is broken into 20 teams that focus on specific issues or regions. The membership of the 300 is robust and deep and is also bolstered by outside advisers like Colin Powell (can you think of a better running mate?). Here are just some of the guru’s that make up this incredible team:
Susan E Rice (Team Leader), Gregory Bestor Craig, Madeleine K. Albright, Warren Christopher and Richard Danzig
While it’s nice to know that the next leader of the free world has such depth of bench strength, it was even nicer to know that: “His campaign says that he is well prepared and that he often alters and expands on the talking points provided to him by his foreign policy advisers.” Link to quote
